The world of commerce is undergoing a Full Stack Reboot

 Two recent moves make it a new inflection

Together, they signal the rise of agentic commerce: where AI agents buy on your behalf.

Why This Is Different

This isn’t a feature tweak — it’s a stack reset:

  • Interface: clicks → conversational prompts

  • Logic: recommendation engines → reasoning agents

  • Payments: forms & wallets → AP2 mandates, agentic tokens

  • Compliance: KYC → KYA (Know Your Agent)

  • Loyalty: points-after-purchase → signals-before-recommendation

The funnel collapses. The attention economy gives way to the intention economy.

New Business Models Emerging

  • Platforms become agents (whoever owns the default agent owns the customer).

  • Merchants compete for algorithmic preference → AEO is the new SEO.

  • Payments networks evolve into trust brokers validating agent mandates.

  • Subscriptions become mandates → continuous, programmable replenishment.

  • Loyalty becomes pre-loyalty → rewarding agents before the sale.

Why KYA Matters

For decades, KYC defined digital trust. In the agentic era, KYA — Know Your Agent — becomes just as critical.

  • Who authorized the purchase?

  • Was the agent’s mandate valid?

  • How do we resolve disputes between user, agent, and merchant?

KYA will be to the 2030s what KYC was to the 2010s.

Leadership Imperative

Boards and CEOs must ask:

  • Are our APIs agent-ready?

  • Do we have an agent incentive strategy?

  • Are our loyalty programs designed for agents as much as customers?

  • Do we understand the compliance leap from KYC to KYA?

If mobile commerce was about “anywhere, anytime,” agentic commerce is about “anything, on my terms.”
