Forrester On Indian Vendor Consulting Capabilities

Stephanie Moore on her assessment of India headquartered service firms finds two distinctly different types of consulting capabilities : technical consulting and business process consulting and also notes that while all those evaluated had good to excellent technical consulting expertise, they had different capabilities in business process consulting. The report notes rightly so that customers have watched their India vendors successfully diversify into new areas for years: from legacy application maintenance to leading-edge technology implementations, infrastructure management, and business process outsourcing. Thus, many customers believe that their Indian vendors can and will easily transition into providing technical and business process consulting services, and that they will provide these services at a fraction of the cost of domestic consulting services. Infosys, Satyam & Wipro are recognised as leaders in this study. While I want to say a lot more - I am refraining from commenting. All I can say is that this is the first time that an assessment of this type focussing on consulting is attempted by Forrester and with experience and more insights obviously the quality would improve over time. But the report has some candid observations and believe me it requires lot of guts to keep the giant & glamorous names outside the leader category.
