Next Generation Web Services: Flickr

Flickr can be termed to represent next generation web services. Flickr is likely to set the standards for web apps in the photo sharing/photo management space. The beauty of Flikcr is its singular focus and well engineered architecture. Flickr fulfills web services definition in both dimensions viz
A..A web browser accessible site that provides some useful service in an interactive way.
B.An application with an API that has been exposed over HTTP using REST, XML-RPC, or SOAP.
The UI, Documentation and API libraries are all in place and what I liked most about Flickr is its comprehensive support for RSS and organised based on Tags.

Yahoo's Jeremy Zawadny reviews Flikcr and says that it is time that Yahoo start building something like this. Visit this page for a peek into how Flickr works.
